Cook County employees to picket for a fair contract

After 18 months at the bargaining table, Cook County employees are saying it’s time for the county to get serious about reaching a settlement.

Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle’s administration continues to demand that county employees accept a steep increase in health care costs and what amounts to a cut in pay. The administration hasn’t budged from a proposal that would push health insurance costs up, while providing little in the way of pay increases. That means employees would actually see their take home pay reduced.

County employees have already shown their opposition to the administration’s plan by wearing t-shirts and stickers promoting their unity. But on June 10, they’ll take their fight public with informational pickets at more than a dozen county worksites.

Pickets will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on June 10 – click here for a flyer with more details.

AFSCME members are on the frontlines every day, making sure that Cook County citizens get the services they need and deserve. Now, they’re ready to send a strong message: We deserve affordable, quality health insurance and fair pay!
