Hearing set on motion to dismiss retiree health lawsuit

On Monday, January 14th, there was a status hearing in Sangamon County Circuit Court related to the lawsuit challenging the new law that eliminates guaranteed retiree health care benefits for state of Illinois and state university retirees. The lawsuit was filed by AFSCME, the FOP, the IFT and the INA and has been consolidated with several other suits filed by individual plaintiffs that challenge the law.

The Quinn Administration has filed a Motion to Dismiss the lawsuit. A "status hearing" is not a hearing on the merits of the case, but essentially establishes next steps in the proceedings.

In this instance, the judge set a date on which the Administration's Motion to Dismiss will be argued before the court – Wednesday, February 20th at 1:30 PM.
