Retirees elect advocate to SERS Board

Retirees elected John Tilden as their Annuitant Representative on the State Employees’ Retirement System Board of Trustees.

Tilden has a proven track record of retiree advocacy. He served the state of Illinois for nearly 40 years as a counselor and psychologist. Currently he serves as president of AFSCME Retiree Sub-chapter 66 (Lake and McHenry Counties) and is on the AFSCME Retiree Chapter 31 Executive Board.

“I know that politicians mismanaging pension funding has caused the SERS to be underfunded—not retirees who faithfully paid our contribution out of every paycheck. As your representative, I will fight for the fiscal security of the pension fund and oppose efforts to reduce our pension benefits.”

-- John Tilden, SERS Trustee
