After 57 years as an AFSCME member, 38 of those as the International Secretary-Treasurer, Bill Lucy has announced his intent to retire on June 25.
During a career spanning five decades, Lucy has played a vital role in every AFSCME victory, including the historic 1968 strike which brought union recognition to the Memphis sanitation workers.
“Those of us who have had the privilege of working with Bill over the years know what a tremendous contribution he has made to the building of our great union,” AFSCME Council 31 executive director Henry Bayer said.
The timing of Lucy's resignation will allow delegates to select his successor at the union's international convention in June.
