RBC rally makes big splash as counterpoint to anti-government noise
An estimated 15,000 people demanding that state legislators raise their taxes?
The Responsible Budget Coalition’s huge march and rally was a startling change from the loud but often unthinking anti-government rhetoric that has become all the rage of late. So startling that the Illinois-focused demonstration took the national media by storm, as well as dominating the front pages of newspapers and the front ends of TV and radio station broadcasts across the state.

Wednesday an estimated 15,000 people crowded the streets lining the Illinois capitol complex and filled the statehouse halls. The diverse coalition included teachers, state employees, individuals with disabilities who depend on state-supported services, and many more. They came together to protest cuts expected to be handed down in the next state budget unless a tax increases passes the General Assembly. Madow's show included this comment from Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell: "I think there are progressives in this country who are way out in front of the politicians, and I love the fact that the Illinois protesters were saying, 'Show some guts,' because I think that's exactly what we need to do."
