Cook County sheriff’s police union makes holiday donations to local food pantries

For the fifth year in a row, the union representing Cook County Sheriff’s Police is marking the start of the holiday season by making monetary donations to six food pantries in the townships they patrol.

Tomorrow, sheriff’s police officers who are union leaders of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 2264 will visit food pantries in Bloom, Elk Grove, Leyden, Maine, Northfield and Orland townships. They’ll deliver donations totaling $3,000 in the form of $500 checks to each pantry.

“County sheriff’s police protect and serve our communities every day,” said narcotics officer Kelly Stott, who is president of AFSCME Local 2264. “Just doing our job we see families impacted by domestic violence, drugs and poverty. We go into homes where the kids need clothes and food. So we know that when people are having a tough time, anything we can give helps.”

AFSCME Local 2264 represents more than 400 Cook County sheriff’s police who protect public safety in unincorporated areas of the state’s most populous county. They patrol local communities, investigate crimes, apprehend suspects, serve warrants, combat gangs and much more.
