Honoring local law enforcement

Every day, thousands of officers in city and state police departments and county sheriff’s offices don the badge and fulfill an oath to serve and protect their communities.

The job these men and women perform is essential and inherently dangerous, with some paying the ultimate price. And, as public employees, they’re under pressures familiar to many AFSCME members, including budget cuts and attacks on their union rights.

Today, January 9, has been set aside as a day to recognize the tremendous sacrifice made by law enforcement professionals nationwide.

Law enforcement organizations are partnering to promote a National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day today. It's time for communities to show law enforcement that citizens recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, in public service to us all.
